KUCHING (Dec 17): Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol has accepted his appointment as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports with a strong sense of responsibility.

In a statement, he pledged to carry out the trust placed in him in the best interests of Malaysia’s youth and the development of sports nationwide.

He also thanked the country’s leadership for the confidence shown in him, and all parties who have supported and shared their views throughout his political journey.

“At this early stage, my focus will be on fully understanding the role and needs of the ministry, while supporting ongoing efforts in youth and sports development, particularly at the grassroots level,” said the two-term MP.

Acknowledging the need for continuous learning, Mordi said he was mindful of his own limitations and the importance of gaining deeper insight into his new responsibilities.

He added that his experience as a member of parliament, especially representing a rural constituency, would guide him in contributing progressively and in line with realities on the ground.

At the same time, Mordi reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving Mas Gading.

“Service to the people and efforts to champion the development needs of the local community will remain a priority, in line with my role as a parliamentary representative,” he said.

Separately, Senator Abun Sui Anyit welcomed the Cabinet reshuffle announced on Tuesday, describing it as reflective of an inclusive Cabinet that recognises the importance of fair representation for Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the appointment of Sabahan Datuk Mustapha Sakmud as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak Affairs, together with the inclusion of deputy ministers from Sabah and Sarawak – including Mordi and Miri MP Chiew Choon Man (Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture), demonstrated Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s commitment to strengthening East Malaysia’s voice at the federal level.

“This inclusive approach will help ensure better coordination, more effective policy implementation and closer engagement with the states, for the benefit of Sabah, Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole,” he said.

Mordi is a Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak vice-chairman, while Chiew is a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice youth chief.

Both DAP and PKR are opposition parties in Sarawak but major components of the federal Madani government helmed by Anwar.
